Recreational Marijuana

With the recently passed I502 initiative, adults over the age of 21 will be able to carry up to an ounce of marijuana (28.4 grams) for personal use.  The initiative also states that it “is unlawful to open a package containing marijuana in view of the general public”.  Keep in mind that all marijuana possession and sale remains illegal under federal law, and many of the Washington state police departments cannot predict or control the enforcement activities of federal authorities. Can I smoke marijuana outside my home? Smoking marijuana in a public place is pretty much like having an open container of alcohol in public, you could be cited with a civil infraction—like a ticket—but not arrest. Basically, if smoking a cigarette is not allowed where you are, smoking marijuana will not be allowed either.
