A Seattle woman was seriously injured by an alleged drunk driver when she was at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and South Henderson Street. The incident happened on January 18 at around 6:15 p.m. and police say that the driver fled the scene. Officer found the vehicle shortly after the crash and arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI. The woman stuck sustained life-threatening injuries.

At Russell & Hill – Injury & Accident Attorneys, we know that pedestrians in and around the city face dangers each day. As the case above shows us, alcohol-impaired drivers can cause significant harm, but they are not the only contributor. If you need a Seattle pedestrian accident attorney, we are here to help. Our knowledgeable and experienced team is ready to investigate your case and get the compensation you deserve.

What Can Happen

You will find that we have plenty of people who enjoy walking, jogging, and running around the city. Whether they are exercising or simply heading from work to a restaurant on a lunch break, the pedestrians in Seattle should not have to worry about getting hurt.

Unfortunately, we know that crashes happen and they almost always cause an injury or fatality when pedestrians are involved. For the latest reporting year in the state, a pedestrian or bicyclist was involved in an accident in the state every 2.5 hours on average.

When we look at the main causes of vehicle accidents in the state, we can see that pedestrians are vulnerable to the same errors that cause vehicle versus vehicle collisions. This includes:

  • Distracted drivers
  • Speeding drivers
  • Those under the influence of alcohol
  • Failure to yield
  • Improper backing

Pedestrians have no protection from the force of an impact. Whether they are struck by a vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, or something else, there is a high probability they will sustain an injury. It is not uncommon for us to represent people who have sustained the following as a result of a pedestrian crash:

  • Spinal cord trauma
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Internal bleeding
  • Internal organ damage
  • Broken or dislocated bones
  • Severe lacerations

Treatment for these injuries can become incredibly expensive. Often, the victim is not able to work for an extended period of time, seriously jeopardizing their ability to care for themselves and their families.

If You Are Hurt

We know that the last thing on your mind when you are walking down the sidewalk or going across an intersection is that you will be seriously injured. Regardless of how safe you try to be when you are out on foot, you cannot control the reckless behavior of those around you. At Russell & Hill – Injury & Accident Attorneys, we want to help you secure the compensation you need if you are injured. This can include coverage for your medical bills, lost income, as well as pain and suffering damages.
